IRISH LINGO

I've been getting a kick out of how the Irish pronounce certain words that we use in the States with the same meaning, as along with some words they give to stuff we use:

1. Aluminum - they pronounce it Al-o-min-e-um
2.Party - they say - Pah-ty
3. Instead of being in line at say, the Post Office or the Grocery store, you're not in a line, you're in the Que (they spell it different but I can't remember how)
4. A band-aid is a "Plaster"
5. Instead of saying 5:30 (five-thirty) they say "Half five.
6. A diaper is a "nappy"
7. Mothers are always called "Mums". Always, even on greeting card
8. You are always, "Very Welcome" to church or to Relief Society or even to someone's home. That is the first thing they say.
9. I haven't quite figured out what a "digestive" is, but I think it's a cracker, like a ritz or a wheat cracker. I'll get back to you on this one when I find it out.
10. "Elevensees" is like a mid-morning snack. Of course you probably knew that one from Lord of the Rings
11. Bacon here looks different. It's not like the bacon we have. It's not quite as long and about 3 times as wide. It's called a "Rasher". You can get it in plain, hickory smoked, maple flavored, or "streaky" (which is with a little more fat).
12. Fillet of fish - we say "fill-ay". They say "fill-it"
13. The police are called "Guarda".
14. A gas station is a "petrol station".
14. If they like something, it's "grand" or "luv-ly"
15. You don't give someone a "ride" (in fact that means something dirty) - you give them a "lift"
16. An escalator is a "travelator"
17. A shopping cart is a "trolley"
18. An elevator is a "lift" (You probably already knew this one too)
19. A sweater is a "jumper" (Did you know this one already from Harry Potter?)
