Wicklowe Mountains

We stopped in the town of Wicklowe, which is right by the coast, so that's where we took the pictures of the sea. The cannons and ruins are an old fort that is on a hill overlooking the harbour. Also notice the lighthouse, and the big freighter. They were unloading the freighter when we were there.

In the pictures of the Wicklowe Mountains, everywhere you see brown bush, that is the heather bushes, so imagine these same pictures with violet purple blooms everywhere. We're going to come back in a couple of months when the heather is in bloom. If you've ever seen "PS, I Love You", the part where she is in Ireland and she meets him for the first time, she is in the Wicklowe Mountains. Wicklowe is considered to be the Garden of Ireland. The picture with smoke was either a forest fire or a controlled burn, we don't know which, but we passed a fire engine that was watching it. The picture of the dried grass and the really black dirt, is a bog. They have a lot of bogs in Ireland. Bogs have a lot of water in them and they have found really old stuff in bogs that is very well preserved. They've even found dead bodies, hundreds of years old, but preserved because of the moisture in the bogs.
