We visited this abbey the same day we went to the Rock of Cashel, but I never posted the pictures, so here they are:
Hore Abbey was originally of the Benedictine order, but in 1272, the Archbishop had a dream that the monks had made an attempt on his life, so he kicked them out of the Abbey rather violently. He brought some Cistercian monks over from another county (since the Cistercian's were more fashionable) and founded a new Cistercian Abbey and he himself took the habit of that abbey over.
This Abbey is just down the hill from the Rock of Cashel and sits out in a field - no charge and no one there at all. The only thing we had to watch out for was watching where we walked since they had grazed cows and sheep in the grass surrounding the Abbey.
