Since I have come to Ireland, I have discovered Irish Soup. I call it Irish Soup, but THEY don't call it that here. The reason I call it that, is because it is different than soup in the States. I go out to lunch every Thursday with some of the other Intel wives that are here for the expansion project. There are 5 of us. We try to go someplace different every week. Most places we go have a "soup of the day". Here are some of their soups: Butternut Squash, Tomato Basil, Vegetable, Broccoli and Leek, Carrot, Mushroom, Chicken Vegetable, Potato and Leek. Now all of these soups are alike in one way - they are all creamed soups. They are all just whatever vegetable, pureed and made into soup. I was never a fan of creamed soups until I came here. Now granted, some places are better than others, but the only place I really had a bad bowl of soup was in this horrible cafe just outside Rock of Cashel. The Tourist Shop lady suggested we go there. Trust me. Don't Go There. It was pretty pitiful. When I saw that bowl of soup, I almost just walked out. It looked like soup for poor people - hardly any color or flavor. The soups that I have had here in my town are absolutely the best soups I have ever tasted. I love them so much, in fact, that I eat them a lot when I go out to lunch. Most soups are seved with a couple of slices of brown bread. Even the Broccoli and Leek soup was sooo good. So if you ever come to Ireland, make sure you have some Irish Soup.
