RANDOM THOUGHTS...

Monday night we decided to go to the mall after dinner. We got there at 7:10. The stores were all closed.???

I was reading a book the other day by an Irish author. The story was also about an Irish woman. In the book the character wonders if she'll ever figure out how to drive through a "roundabout". She says it seems like she is always in the wrong lane. My thoughts exactly.

The other day my husband and I went to Eddie Rockets (just like Johnny Rockets in the US). We ordered a combo of fries and onion rings (they don't come with your hamburger automatically, you have to order some). When they brought them, they had a little cup of something white that I thought was Ranch dressing until I remembered that they don't have Ranch dressing here. I tasted it. It was sour cream. :0+

When my husband and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we bought "reserved" seats. They were only 3 Euro more a seat. When we told the guy we wanted reserved seats, he turned his computer screen around and let us pick them. When you go into the movie theater, a woman comes up to you and asks for your ticket and takes you to your reserved seat. We didn't see anyone when we went in, so after we had gotten in there and were looking for our seat, she came in and asked for our tickets then showed us our seats (which we had already found). Next time we'll know to get a seat on the first row of reserved seats and not the last We had an entire row of kids behind us. Actually they were pretty well behaved. At one of the most intense parts of the movie, after it was over one of the little kids let out a big sigh. It was so funny because it was kind of what we all wanted to do. It cracked all the other kids up though. :0)

The other day I went to lunch and asked what their soup of the day was. They said vegetable minnestrone, so I ordered it. Now my idea of vegetable minnestrone would be soup with vegetables, maybe some kind of bean like a navy bean, or pinto bean, kidney bean, etc., and maybe some kind of pasta. Being as they said vegetable minnestrone I thought maybe it wouldn't have meat in it. What they brought me was vegetable soup in a tomato-y/chicken broth. It had pieces of carrot, onion, broccoli, cauliflower and either parsnips or turnips. These are all very Irish vegetables. But to me that wasn't minnestrone soup. That was vegetable soup. But here, vegetable soup is purreed vegetables - like a cream soup.

The Soccer team from Spain has been staying at the Carton House Hotel. They are here for their spring training. The Carton House Hotel sits on the old Carton House Estate, and the hotel is actually the old estate house. On those grounds are also a golf course, and they even have a section of private homes. We almost rented one of those, but my husband didn't like it. I did. :0+ Anyway, the whole thing is surrounded by a stone wall and has various gated entrances. They have closed all of these entrances except the main one, and now have a security guard at that entrance checking every car and every person (on foot) that come in, to make sure they are not crazed fans. It is quite funny, because the teenagers are dying to get in. They stand out on the road hitchhiking, hoping someone in a car will pick them up and drive them through the security gate so they can get in to see their favorite team. One day we were driving by and saw a bunch of teenage boys climbing the wall to get in. :0) Here's a picture of the hotel:
