A LITTLE TOO SWEET

Last Saturday my husband went fishing with an Irish friend from work.  I packed him a lunch and also put in a Nutra Grain bar and a chocolate Rice Krispy treat.  My husband loves any kind of sweet.  I mean, he ought to wear a button around that says: Little Debbie is my friend. Since we moved to Ireland however, I have stopped buying anything like Little Debbie snacks and the only thing he gets here is Nutra Grain bars and occasionally a chocolate or chocolate & carmel Rice Krispy treat.  Every once in awhile I'll let him have a chocolate muffin (besides birthdays and special occasions - see he's really not mistreated).  When he and his Irish friend ate lunch, he offered his chocolate Rice Krispy treat to his friend.  Never fear - after he left our house that morning, he had stopped at a store and bought another box, he said "to share". :0)  He asked his friend if he'd ever had one, and he said no so took it.  Later on when they were finished fishing, he knew his friend had to drive an hour back home so offered him another chocolate Rice Krispy treat.  His friend declined saying "Oh no, I sure don't want another one of those, they're too sweet!"  One thing I've found out all over Europe is that their sweets are not as sweet as ours in the USA.  One time I went to a church meeting and the ladies served cupcakes - or what they called "fairy cakes".  They WERE cupcakes, but none of them had any icing on them.  Just plain cupcakes.  But the funny thing is, whenever I take any sweets that I have made to church all the ladies just scarf them up and then want me to bring them the recipe.  So they might SAY they don't like that much sugar, but I wonder if secretly they do?
