LAUNDRY DAY

Today is laundry day! I got the book out on the washer and read it. Sounded simple enough. And it was, don't misunderstand me. But HOLY COW! this is the WEIRDEST washer and dryer I've ever seen. I actually have a laundry room. The washer and dryer are in there and they are mounted like a dishwasher - under the counter. They are both front-loaders. The washer has a window/door opening and on the dryer, you just press on a spot on the door and it opens. For the washer, I put in the clothes, shut the door, put the laundry soap in a little drawer dispenser thing and then turned the dial to the correct setting. I heard the water start to come in and it ran for a minute, maybe only 30 seconds. Then it stopped. Then the agitation started. It would go around (like a dryer) for a couple of turns, then stop. Then it would go the other way for a couple of turns, then stop. It continued doing that. Every once in a while, it might spray in a little more water. But there was never enough water to fill up the tub, like ours does in the US. You can see a little tiny bit of water in there - and I mean TINY - but mostly the water is in the clothes. The rinse cyle spun so fast, it literally sounded like a jet plane taking off. You could even hear the whine (of the engine?). WEIRD. When I took the clothes out of the dryer they were not as wet as they would have been after a washer cycle in one of our washers.
For the dryer, I put the clothes in the dryer, added a bounce sheet (Woohoo! They sell Bounce here!) Then shut the door, turned it to the correct setting and then pushed start. Okay, that was pretty normal too. Since I was drying towels my husband warned me about this: After awhile (can't remember how long) I heard a musical tone that my husband warned me about. The towels weren't dry, but I had to go clean the lint filter, and empty the condensation tank. The condensation tank is at the bottom of the dryer. You have to pull it out and open the lid and empty the water into the sink and then put it back. I was amazed at how much water came out of those towels. After I put it back, then I pressed start again and it kept drying until it was done. When it was done, it played the musical sound again. I felt the towels and they were dry, so I could take them out. But then I had to empty the lint filter and the condensation tank again. I guess with their condensation tank, they don't have to vent the dryers to the outside. Even with the lightest of my clothes, I still needed to empty the condenser tank once. What a pain! But it works so whatever.
