TALK LIKE AN AMERICAN

Today I went with my Irish friend to a town about an hour away to visit another friend. My friend and I talked all the way there, stayed over an hour at our other friend's house and then drove an hour back home, stopping for lunch for 30 minutes on the way. When we were almost home she said, "My goodness, by the time you go back home to the states, I'll probably be talking just like you!"

I have another Irish friend that told me her 2 little boys were watching a lot of "American shows" on tv. They started picking up "American lingo" and started saying things like "the backyard" instead of "the garden", and "trash" instead of "rubbish", etc. She told them they needed to "Stop talking like that or what would people think of them talking like Americans!"

Oh no, not the dreaded American Lingo! I really had to laugh at both instances. Problem is, I hear myself talking more and more like an Irishwoman. :0)
