After we toured around Powerscourt, we went to their little grocery deli and bought Irish Cheese Soda Bread, a tray of different cheeses, a few small sticks of salami, and some chocolate Rocky Road bars, and a couple of Diet Cokes and drove down to the Powerscourt Waterfall. The waterfall is not in the same area as the gardens. You have to pay more admission charges to go to the waterfall, although there is no one taking tickets, so I don't know how they stop people from just going down there without paying. They had picnic tables and a WONDERFUL playground for the kids. I wanted to go play with some of the stuff: Like a big, HUGE, screw - that when you wound the crank, would actually bring water up from one place and dump it back in at the top. This was very popular and lots of kids were crowding around it to get their turn. We decided to just eat in the car. As we started to unwrap our food we kept smelling something not very appetising. Finally we realized that it was the Brie cheese. Not ever having had brie, I didn't realize it smelled so bad. I've always seen people eating brie and they looked like they enjoyed it. We didn't :0+ But we did enjoy the rest of the cheese, and the Irish Cheese Soda bread was the best thing we ever put in our mouth! When we bought it, it was just sitting on this big display - no plastic wrapper -just all these different breads pliled up together. We just tore off big hunks and ate them. Ireland has the best breads! Oh. My. Gosh. We have to find someplace to get some more of that. We also bought a jar of huge green olives that looked like they had big pimentos in them. They weren't pimentos. Guess what they were, Mr. Giggles? Yes, your favorite - red chili peppers! Who'd of thought we'd find something like that here in Ireland? They were as good as the bread and quite addictive. You wanted to eat more, but were afraid to eat that many chili peppers. And yes, they were quite spicy. One of the most enjoyable lunches we've had here.
