We went to church today and the heat was off - AGAIN. This happened several weeks ago and it was so cold we held Relief Society in the foyer. There was heat in the foyer, but not in the classrooms that day. Today however, there was no heat in the chapel, no heat in the foyer, and no heat in the classrooms. Our bishop got up at the end of Sacrament meeting and said that because the heat was off in the whole building, that he was going to cancel the rest of the meetings for the day. At first I wondered why he had done it, because by then I was a little warmer. Of course, I played the organ that day and that always warms up at least my hands. But when I walked out of the chapel into the foyer it was like at least a 10 degree drop in temperature! I decided then that he had made the right decision. My hands and upper body were not freezing, but my legs and feet were like ice. Plus, the longer you sat there the more chilled you got.
The problem with our church heating system, our bishop tells my husband, is that they only have one button to turn it on. That's a good thing, I guess, because they sure can't be doing anything wrong when they turn it on if all they have to do is push a button. So sometimes they push the button and the heat comes on and it works, and sometimes they push the button and it doesn't come on. When that happens, they don't know what to do. Every time it happens, they have a heater guy come out and look at it, and it runs fine for awhile, then one day it doesn't come on again. I guess while we were in the States for Christmas it happened then also. You just don't realize how cold it can get in a building with no heat.
