STRAWBERRIES & WHIPPED CREAM

Strawberries are in season right now. They have fruit stands up all over by the side of the roads. My husband stopped and bought some the other day on his way home from work, so we went to the store to buy whipping cream. They don't have Cool Whip here, so you have to whip your own cream. When we got to the dairy aisle, we found whipped cream already whipped and ready for purchase. Hey, that's the next best thing to Cool Whip. This whipped cream is not like Cool Whip - it doesn't come frozen, but is sold fresh and therefore will expire. Now, Whipped Cream in Ireland is not like your American Whipped Cream - it has no sugar in it. None. If you were to go to a cafeteria style restaurant and go to the fresh fruit and dessert section, you would see a big bowl of freshly whipped cream. None of their whipped cream has sugar in it. I really like it that way, although it does take some getting used to. I don't know if they think it has enough calories already, or if they just don't like sweet things here. Anyway, I think it tastes good, and if you mix it with your strawberries (that I DO sweeten with sugar) you don't need any sugar on your whipped cream. My husband disagrees with me, and so he gets out the sugar bowl.
