IRISH TV

I'm sorry, but Irish tv is just not that great and we even have cable. My husband even added some channels - Sci-Fi and a sports channel so we can get the US football and games. The funny thing is, my husband recently went back to the States. He told me that he didn't see that many other tv shows in the States either. I guess we just need to keep looking to find some new shows. One show we watch is "Warehouse 13". It's okay, I don't love it. It sort of insults my intelligence, but it's entertaining somewhat. My husband loves "The Seeker". I'm sorry, but that show really does insult my intelligence.
One thing we found out here though is that every house has to have a TV License. It's not cheap either and costs about 160 Euro for a year. They even go around house to house knocking on doors to see if anyone doesn't have a license, and fine you if you don't have one. Our Relo people just sent us a copy of our TV License because they said that they heard this was happening in our area. I looked up "TV License Ireland" online and found out that the money is supposed to support public broadcasting. I guess other places public broadcasting is funded by government grants and fund-raising. If you are a senior citizen or can't afford to pay your license I think you can get assistance. I just wonder how this would fly in the States though???
